From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Hoping for a little state help, Kern County supervisors declared a local emergency because of damage from last week’s flooding. Road damage totaled $60,000 in the areas around Rosamond, Tehachapi and Frazier Park that were hit hardest by the storms. In addition, 12 mobile homes were damaged at Rosamond, water two feet deep rushed through 15 homes near Tehachapi and several homes or yards were damaged at Lake of the Woods in the Frazier Park area. Steve Ladd, director of the county Office of Emergency Services, said he expects to learn from his state counterparts by the end of the week whether they will recommend that Gov. Pete Wilson grant Kern County state emergency status.
