SIMI VALLEY : Opinions Sought on Kadota Fig Rezoning

Share

Residents and property owners in Simi Valley’s Kadota Fig area are invited to meet with city officials this week to give their views on whether the mostly rural neighborhood should be rezoned to encourage more development.

A special ad-hoc committee, headed by City Council members Sandi Webb and Judy Mikels, will preside over the meeting, officials said. The committee, which also includes nine property owners, will use the public comments to help it advise the council on whether portions of the neighborhood’s zoning should be changed to allow more development, or if the zoning should remain as it is.

Kadota Fig encompasses 448 acres bounded by Tapo Canyon Road on the west, Alamo Street on the north, Stearns Street on the east, and Cochran and Leeds streets on the south.

Provisions in the present zoning allow property owners to keep horses, pigs and other farm animals on their land. But residents in recent years have been at odds over whether the area’s zoning should be changed, particularly south of the Simi Valley Freeway.

The council formed the committee to try to work out a compromise. The panel is expected to make a decision on a possible zoning change in June.

The public may submit written comments to the Simi Valley Department of Environmental Services.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in the Community Meeting Room at City Hall.
