More Visited Anaheim: Despite the recession and Gulf War, the Anaheim Convention Center and area hotels saw a slight increase in attendance, with 364 trade shows and exhibitions during 1991.

Attendance was 1,064,500, up 6% over last year’s 1,000,170. And from cocktails to podium rentals, the convention delegates contributed a ton of loot to the local economy, the Anaheim Area Visitor and Convention Bureau said.

Based on average spending of $1,300 each--the estimate provided by the International Assn. of Convention and Visitor Businesses--the conventioneers spent $1.3 billion in Anaheim last year. Almost half of that was for hotel accommodations and service, with the rest distributed among restaurants, local transportation, entertainment, shopping and other items.
