La Verne : Recycling Ahead of Pace
Having already met a state-imposed requirement to reduce trash 25% by 1995, city officials say they are well on their way to meeting the required 50% reduction by the year 2000.
According to a report by Finance Officer Ronald Clark, the city recycles 38.2% of its trash.
Councilman Thomas Harvey attributed La Verne’s success to Marshall Canyon Golf Course recycling its grass clippings and to local businesses reselling waste products.
The council agreed to Councilman Craig Walters’ suggestion for a committee to study additional recycling possibilities, such as rebates for people who buy mulching blades for their lawn mowers. City Manager Martin Lomeli said the committee should have a report by early July.
