Repealing the Luxury Tax

Share

Your editorial on repealing the luxury tax on yachts and airplanes (“A Luxury the Economy Can’t Afford,” Feb. 9) brought a chuckle to me. It appears that at least one liberal at your paper agrees that the original 10% tax levy was not economically sound. Where were you in 1990 when the tax was levied? Wasn’t it obvious then that prospective boat/plane purchasers would go overseas, and the result would cause layoffs in the boat/plane industries?

If you liberals cannot figure out that simple case of economic cause and effect, no wonder you only solve problems by increasing taxes and government. And also, your use of the phrase “the so-called little people” in reference to the workers who were affected is very condescending.
