Repealing the Luxury Tax

Share

I must take exception to your position on repealing excise taxes on luxury yachts and airplanes.

The amounts above which there are taxes in excess of the normal sales taxes are clearly in the upper-class category; 98% of the population would never be able to afford $100,000 yachts and $250,000 airplanes. I can’t believe that the extra taxes would make the difference when one contemplates purchasing these items.

Basic sales taxes are unfair to the majority of our population as they pay the same amount as a very wealthy person. The only fair taxes are consumption taxes, which should increase as the price of an item increases. There are no shelters in this type of tax. I feel that taxes of this type are the answer to taxation problems in the future.
