Pyewacket measured its record victory in the ninth biennial San Diego-to-Manzanillo race by 13 hours 15 minutes when runner-up Ed McDowell’s Grand Illusion sailed into port at the Las Hadas resort just before dawn Thursday. The next three boats--Les Crouch’s Maverick, the Doug Baker/Dick Pennington Cheetah and Brack Duker’s Evolution--finished an hour later within 15 minutes of each other. Pyewacket, owned by Roy Disney Jr. and skippered by his son, Roy Pat, averaged nine knots over the 1,100 nautical miles.
