Chips That Infringe on TI Patent Are Barred: The International Trade Commission issued an order barring the importation of some computer chips assembled overseas by four U.S. companies because they infringe on a patent held by Texas Instruments. The four companies--LSI Logic, VLSI Technology, Cypress Semiconductor and Integrated Device Technology--say the ruling will have little impact because they have begun using a packaging technique that does not violate the TI patent. The ITC order confirms a ruling by an administrative law judge. It must be signed by President Bush to take effect.
