Education Program

In response to your article, “Resolute Schools Boss Gives Pupils a Vital CHOICE” (Jan. 20), I am proud that someone finally has the right idea about how to fix the disastrous situation in our public schools. The idea of offering extra days of school as a chance for students to further their education is fantastic.

This program is actually getting people to work for what they want, instead of waiting for someone to offer them a free ride. This country is based on people competing with each other to get what they want, but recently people just expect that the government should take care of them.

With the CHOICE program, everyone is giving instead of taking. The teachers are giving up time and a large portion of their usual salary to teach these extra days, the parents are giving up some of their time and getting involved with the education of their children.

I commend the superintendent on his creativity and hard work. Hopefully this idea will catch on and other districts will follow suit.

If everyone gives a little, instead of expecting something for nothing, then maybe we can get our school system back to where it should be--in the business of education, not bureaucracy.
