Rain, Floods and Drought
Every time we have an abundant amount of rain in Southern California, with streets flooding, rivers cresting and snow packing in the mountains, we always ask the same question: Will this satisfy our water needs for the year and alleviate the drought?
Well, we always get the same answer. On television we see some Metropolitan Water District official standing beside the Los Angeles or Santa Ana rivers, with millions of gallons of water flowing out to the sea, stating, “No, we don’t get our water from this rain. We depend on the Northern California mountain snowpack and reservoirs for our water. We still have a drought.”
After many decades, we should start doing something to reclaim the precious water available to us in Southern California instead of letting it flow out to sea.
