Alpharel Reports 29% Gain in Net Income

Share

Alpharel Inc., a Camarillo maker of computer imaging systems, said its fourth-quarter net income grew 29%, to $359,000 from $278,000 a year earlier, while revenues rose 15% to $1.73 million from $1.5 million.

For the full year that ended Dec. 31, Alpharel’s profit jumped to $1.4 million from $153,000 in 1990. Revenues grew 23%, to $6.58 million from $5.34 million.

The company attributed the higher earnings in part to improved profit margins resulting from increased sales of its software products. That allowed Alpharel to spend more on research, development and marketing, the company said.

The once-ailing company, which undertook a restructuring in 1990, said it had $4.7 million in cash at the end of the year, thanks to a secondary stock offering that raised $3 million and $1.8 million generated by operations. Alpharel also installed four new imaging systems in 1991 and ended the year with contract awards from ARCO Alaska Inc. and Wisconsin Electric Power Co.
