WESTMINSTER : Hearing on Billboard Will Be Reopened

Share

The City Council will reopen a public hearing today on whether to revoke its approval of an enormous billboard that many residents say would be an eyesore and violate the city code.

Council members held a hearing on the matter Feb. 11, but representatives of Metropolitan Outdoor Advertising in Carson, which wants to build the sign, notified the city that they could not attend the session.

More than a dozen citizens spoke against the proposal at the first hearing, saying that the 672-square-foot billboard would be more than twice the size allowed by city code.

Early last year, the company received permission from the council to build the 50-foot-tall sign at 1402 Springdale Ave. Although no residents spoke against the proposal at the time, many later complained that they were not notified that the matter was before the council.
