3 More Airline Passengers Stricken With Cholera
Three passengers from an Aerolineas Argentinas flight have been stricken with cholera in Japan, raising the number of confirmed cases to 11, U.S. health officials said Monday.
The three were among 37 passengers who continued on to Japan on another plane after the Feb. 14 flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Lima, Peru, landed at Los Angeles International Airport.
Eight passengers in California are confirmed to have contracted cholera. One of them--a 70-year-old man--died last week after being hospitalized in Arcadia. About 80 more passengers and crew members from Flight 386 have shown symptoms of the disease, but these cases have yet to be confirmed. Health officials in California say the infection probably came from contaminated food or water served to the 336 passengers and crew aboard the Boeing 747 jumbo jet.
