Ex-Offensive Coordinator Files Grievance Against SDSU

Dave Lay, fired as San Diego State’s offensive coordinator by Coach Al Luginbill on Jan. 20, filed a grievance against the university two weeks ago, according to Bill McLaughlin, Lay’s attorney.

McLaughlin says he doesn’t think SDSU adhered to state collective bargaining agreement guidelines in dismissing Lay.

“As of this date, we haven’t received any explanation for them not renewing his contract,” McLaughlin said. “We’re hoping that by going through this process, we can discover what the truth is.”

Don Kaverman, SDSU associate athletic director who works with the football program, confirmed a grievance had been filed. A hearing has been set for March 3.
