Chrysler to Send Japan Right-Hand-Drive Cherokees: Chrysler Corp. said it will begin exporting Jeep Cherokees with right-hand drive to Japan this year. The auto maker said it concluded that “a major reason why U.S. cars don’t sell well in Japan is because they have the steering wheel on the left-hand side.” Chrysler said it has not decided how many Cherokees it will export, or whether it will continue to ship some models with left-side steering wheels. Chrysler sold 1,100 Cherokees in Japan in 1991.
