SEAL BEACH : City Bans Smoking in Public Sessions

Share

The City Council this week voted unanimously to ban smoking in public meetings held in facilities owned or operated by the city.

“People just did not want to attend council meetings because of the smoke in there,” said Councilwoman Gwen Forsythe, who first suggested the ordinance nearly three years ago.

Private meetings held in city-owned or operated buildings are not subject to the rule. The new ordinance allows organizers of those meetings to decide whether to prohibit smoking.

The ordinance will go into effect March 25.
