Riverside Official Named to Police Chief’s Post
Inglewood has named a high-ranking official from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department to take over as police chief, according to sources.
City officials will announce the appointment of Oliver M. Thompson, 48, chief deputy of corrections and a 20-year veteran in the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, at a Monday morning press conference at City Hall, the sources said.
Thompson, who has a doctorate in public administration from USC, is a part-time instructor at UCLA, Cal State San Bernardino and Riverside Community College. He will be the third black chief in Inglewood’s history. He replaces Ray Johnson, who left the 210-officer force last fall when Gov. Pete Wilson named him director of the state Office of Criminal Justice Planning.
