OXNARD : Trustees to Vote on Harassment Policy
Oxnard Union High School District trustees have given tentative approval to a sexual harassment policy and are expected to adopt it at their March 11 meeting, officials said.
Trustees approved a first reading of the policy, which has been in the works for the past eight months, Personnel Director Bill Studt said. The policy will cover the district’s 1,250 employees.
Development of the policy was prompted by allegations of sexual harassment that arose during last year’s confirmation hearings for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Studt said. The district’s policy says sexual harassment is “improper, immoral, illegal and will not be tolerated.”
It outlines a complaint process for employees and defines six areas of harassment, including making unwanted sexual propositions, leering, touching and making sexual gestures or jokes.
Under the policy, approved by trustees last week, employees who harass others will face discipline, including possible dismissal, Studt said.
