Tax Withholding Reduction Takes Effect Today: Starting this week, American workers can expect to find a little something extra in their paychecks from Uncle Sam--some more of their own money. President Bush’s plan to boost workers’ take-home pay by reducing the amount of taxes withheld goes into effect for paychecks delivered this month. While Bush trumpeted the proposal as part of his plan to boost the stagnant economy, most workers won’t find enough extra in their paychecks to even splurge on a movie. Single taxpayers will get an extra $3.30 a week, while married people will find an extra $6.65, the Internal Revenue Service says.
