Nation IN BRIEF : MASSACHUSETTS : Christian Scientists Tell of Borrowings
The Christian Science Church said it borrowed $45 million from a pension fund and other reserves. Spokesman Nathan Talbot said in Boston: “We will not let ourselves be put in a situation where we can’t pay our bills.” The church ran into problems building its Monitor Channel cable television network and other broadcasting operations. The network cost about $500 million in five years, the Boston Globe reported. The church also said it shifted $20 million from an endowment fund of the Christian Science Monitor newspaper.
