Franklin Telecommunications Corp., a Westlake Village maker of data-communications equipment, said its fiscal second-quarter earnings rose 58% from a year earlier despite a 9% drop in revenue.

In the quarter ended Dec. 31, Franklin’s net income rose to $126,000 from $80,000, while its revenue fell to $992,000 from $1.1 million. It was the most profitable quarter since Franklin divested itself of its personal-computer business during its fiscal year ended June 30, 1990, the company said. Franklin said it has been profitable five of the six quarters since then.

For the six months ended Dec. 31, the company lost $253,000 contrasted with a year-earlier profit of $107,000. Its six-month revenue dropped 50%, to $1.3 million from $2.63 million.
