United Fare Increase Not Sticking: United Airlines, backing off from an across-the-board air fare increase, said it will raise only discounted excursion fares by 2% beginning March 6. United had initially wanted to raise all fares, including full-coach and excursion fares, by 2%. But United changed plans after Delta, American and Continental airlines raised only excursion fares, which are primarily used by leisure travelers.
