Five books published in 1991 have been nominated for the 1992 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, a national award for American writers.
The nominees are “Mao II” by Don DeLillo (Viking), “Frog” by Stephen Dixon (British American Publishing), “Extraordinary People” by Paul Gervais (HarperCollins), “White People” by Allan Gurganus (Knopf) and “The Almanac Branch” by Bradford Morrow (Linden Press/Simon & Schuster).
The judges, writers Doris Grumback, Richard Wiley and Joy Williams, considered 261 novels and short story collections published by major publishing houses, small presses and academic presses.
The winner will be announced in early April, and all five writers will be honored at a ceremony at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington on May 16. The luncheon is open to the public. For an invitation, call (202) 544-7077.
