COPENHAGEN : A Baltic Boost

Share

Foreign ministers from the nine countries bordering the Baltic Sea plus Norway convene tomorrow to found a Baltic Cooperation Council aimed at increasing economic, political, and environmental cooperation among its members.

The new council is meant to support the democratic process in Russia, Poland and the newly free Baltic states and to signal willingness by European Community countries to work more closely with non-member states in the region, according to German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher.

The founding meeting is sponsored by Germany and Denmark, which are the only two EC member countries bordering the Baltic Sea.
