GE to Crack Down on ‘Tyrant’ Managers: Chairman John Welch Jr. is out to change the corporate culture at General Electric Co. He said in the annual report that GE will no longer tolerate “big-shot, tyrant” managers who squelch productive ideas to meet short-term profit goals. Welch said the goals of the new culture are to focus on customer needs, boost productivity and cut response time. That will give GE more competitive products, he said. Part of the equation is reforming managers who intimidate workers, he said.
