Irwindale : Tutoring Program Delay

Share

The City Council last week postponed action on a proposed city-funded tutoring program in order to further evaluate its design and cost.

Councilman Robert Diaz has been pushing a proposal to employ up to 35 certificated teachers for one-on-one after-school tutoring of Irwindale children, but other council members have reacted cautiously.

Diaz initially asked the council to approve a vague $85,000 plan. He later presented a written proposal for a program that could cost either $72,600 or $16,840, depending on the number of students participating.

However, Interim City Manager George Caswell suggested last Thursday that the council hold off final action until September when schools begin new sessions.

Caswell advised the council to discuss the program with the Covina Valley Unified School District.
