TORRANCE : 8-Year Incumbent Loses Seat on City Council
- Share via
Eight-year incumbent Timothy Mock lost his seat on the Torrance City Council Tuesday in an election dominated by controversy over the disappearance of $6.2 million in city funds entrusted to Steven D. Wymer, an Orange County investment adviser who has since been charged with securities fraud.
Most of the eight challengers for three at-large council seats accused Mock and the other incumbent--George Nakano--of failing to protect Torrance’s $74-million investment portfolio.
Challenger Maureen O’Donnell, a high school teacher, took first place with 18% of the vote, followed by Nakano with 17%. Challenger Don Lee, an insurance broker, won the third seat with 15.3%, with Mock trailing in fourth place.
