Fighting in Karabakh

Share

John-Thor Dahlburg’s articles (Feb. 23 and 25) clearly brought to light the brutal realities of man’s inhumanity to man in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Dahlburg’s accounts of the conditions plaguing Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh not only demonstrate the inhumane gestures of the Azerbaijani government, but also prove that the Bush Administration decision to grant diplomatic recognition to Azerbaijan is wrong.

The depiction of conditions under which the population of Stepanakert is forced to live contradicts the principles that encompassed the terms for recognition as outlined by Secretary of State James A. Baker III and President Bush in December.

The Bush Administration should reconsider its abrupt change in policy and should support legislation pending in Congress calling for severe economic restrictions on Azerbaijan until its three-year economic blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh is lifted and peaceful means are sought for the resolution of the this bloody conflict.

Hopefully, Dahlburg’s reports will encourage public outcry against the injustices on the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh.
