Ivory Coast’s main opposition leader Laurent Gbagbo was sentenced to two years imprisonment Friday for causing criminal damage and other offenses.

Another member of parliament, Molle Molle, Ivorian Human Rights League head Rene Degni-Segui and six other people were also jailed for two years on the same charges following a riot in central Abidjan on Feb. 18.

Three more were sentenced to one-year terms in connection with the violence, in which youths burned scores of cars and smashed windows causing several million dollars damage.
