Larsen 2nd in 1,500 Freestyle

INDIANAPOLIS — Alexis Larsen finished second in the 1,500-meter freestyle Saturday in the spring national swimming championships at the Indiana University Natatorium.
Larsen, 15, of Calabasas-based CLASS Aquatics, covered the distance in 16 minutes 52.98 seconds to finish second to Tobie Smith of the University of Texas. Smith was timed in 16:35.33.
The event was held one day after the conclusion of the U.S. Olympic trials because it is not an Olympic event.
In the other event of the day, the men’s 800 freestyle, Rio Mesa High senior Ben Swartout placed seventh in 8:22.28.
