Rape and Abortion

In response to “The Instant Answer Is the Cruel One,” by Lee Ezell, Commentary, Feb. 26:

Ms. Ezell and her ilk consistently miss the point. Being pro-choice means one thing: believing that the government should not have the right to regulate any person’s reproductive life. Every woman in this country is, ostensibly, a free citizen and as such should be left alone to make her own decisions affecting what may or may not be done to her body.

Ms. Ezell should read and then think about the other article from the same page (“Motherhood Is Coerced Worldwide,” by Jodi L. Jacobson). But can Ms. Ezell put aside her dewy-eyed sentimentality long enough to face the fact that women in this country are in the very grave danger of losing their control of their own bodies to the state? If not, then she is like so many others; guilty of deliberate and willful ignorance. I resent her desire to include me in the ranks of slaves that she apparently would have all women become.
