Pitchers Morales, Bushart Excel as CS Northridge Defeats Utah Twice
Cal State Northridge’s Steven Morales and John Bushart struck out 29 batters in 16 innings Sunday as the streaking Matadors swept a nonconference doubleheader from visiting Utah, 6-1 and 7-1.
The right-handed Morales (2-1) struck out 15 in the seven-inning opener, including a school-record eight in a row. He gave up three hits and one unearned run.
Bushart, a left-hander, provided a memorable encore with a five-hitter that included 14 strikeouts in nine innings.
Northridge (9-4) has won nine decisions in a row.
