BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ELSEWHERE : Former Dodger Howell Is Out for the Season
Former Dodger pitcher Ken Howell, now with the Philadelphia Phillies, will undergo reconstructive surgery April 1 to tighten shoulder muscles and will be out for at least a year. . . . St. Louis utility infielder Geronimo Pena broke his collarbone in a fluke pre-game mishap at Clearwater, Fla., tripping over his glove while shagging flies during batting practice. He is expected to miss two to three months. . . . Bo Jackson’s agent said that hip-replacement surgery is among the options being considered, but no course of medical treatment had been decided on for the hobbling Chicago White Sox designated hitter. “The only thing ruled out is retirement,” Arn Tellem said. “Not playing is not an issue and has never been considered.”
