Robert Maxwell’s wine cellar is to be auctioned in a bid to pay off part of the hundreds of millions of dollars of debt left by the collapse of his publishing empire.

Christie’s auctioneers said Monday that the 3,000 bottles of fine wines and claret could fetch up to $137,000 in the March 26 auction. The wine cellar includes 772 magnums and 12 double magnums.

The wines, owned by one of Maxwell’s private firms, Headington Holdings, are being sold on the instructions of administrators salvaging what they can of the companies that folded after Maxwell’s death at sea in November.
