From Times Staff and Wire Reports

John Gotti’s lawyer suggested that the reputed mob boss not only did not initiate but, in fact, was one of the last to learn about a plot to assassinate Gambino family leader Paul Castellano in 1985. In a morning spent cross-examining government star witness Salvatore Gravano, 46, lawyer Albert Krieger ran through a list of 20 reputed mobsters that he said knew of the Castellano murder conspiracy before Gotti. Krieger suggested through his questions that Gotti was not part of the plot until the night before Castellano’s murder, when Gravano, Gotti and about 10 others met in Gravano’s Brooklyn office to go over last-minute plans.
