It’s Pit Bull’s Owner Who Disgraces Breed

Share

I was extremely disturbed by (Dianne Klein’) column of Jan. 28 . It seems that you are trying to destroy the pit bull dog. Why? You are trying to do so without doing your homework about the breed.

Your column speaks of a dog owner (if he dares call himself that) who trains his dogs to kill cats. He could do the same with poodles, Dobies, German Shepherds and any other type of dog he might own.

The breed you should condemn is the human who owns those animals. But again, your column makes a point of pit bulls, which is a crime in the judging of a breed of dog. Shame on you!

I feel pit bulls have had a bad rap due to articles like yours. No one is even sure these dogs are purebred dogs. In fact, they might be dogs that have some pit bull blood in them and only look like pits.

I think you will find that cats, as well as dogs, should not run loose. This is not good for other cats in the neighborhood since feline leukemia and fleas are such a problem. However, this by no means makes the killing of one cat justified.

You should write that any dog will chase, and yes, kill, a cat. This is normal survival instinct for dogs, as they sense that cats are prey. So you cannot blame this type of killing as a pit bull type of behavior.
