Steve Wynn Seeks to Build Casino in Connecticut: With some of the glitter and showmanship Las Vegas is noted for, gambling king Steve Wynn made his pitch to build a casino in Hartford, telling lawmakers that it would bring jobs and hope to this poor city. Armed with a videotape featuring stars such as Frank Sinatra, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, Wynn gave Connecticut lawmakers a glimpse of his Mirage and Golden Nugget hotel-casinos in Las Vegas. While his lavish casinos include such exotic attractions as live sharks, dolphins, white tigers and a 54-foot man-made volcano, Hartford, he told them, is just plain dull. Connecticut lawmakers are considering proposals that would expand legalized gambling in the state.
