School Choice Initiative
The parental choice initiative provides that the government gives a voucher to the certified school of the parents’ choice. It raises the world’s oldest and most basic political issue: Who has the power? Is it the king? Or is it the people?
Specifically, will we, the people, allow the government’s education bureaucracy to continue to misuse its enormous power? Or will we return this power to our children’s own parents?
In spite of higher real per capita spending, government-run public schools today are worse than 10 years ago. How will the public school system produce the required, radical improvement?
Why do the initiative’s opponents believe that the parents lack the competence to choose schools for their own children? Are the parents too stupid? Too corrupt? Too callous about the future of their own children?”
