Dancing With Changes: Los Angeles may be giving Greene his due, but Rodney Grant who played the Sioux warrior Wind in His Hair in “Dances With Wolves” believes the success of that Oscar-winning movie hasn’t changed anything about Hollywood’s portrayal of American Indians. Grant, an Omaha Indian from Nebraska, said the movie industry as a whole continues to cast white men as Indians and noted that Kevin Costner was an exception when he cast “Wolves.” Grant said Costner was a perfectionist determined to have Indians in Indian roles, adding, “Unfortunately, Hollywood isn’t that way.” Grant made the comments in Rapid City, S.D., where he was scheduled to narrate Thursday night’s performance of the University of Wyoming’s ballet “Winter Moons.”
