Felipe F. Turich; Retired Actor

Felipe F. Turich, whose acting career spanned 60 years from the silent screen to television, has died at a Glendale hospital. He was 93.

A Glendale resident, Turich died Monday of pneumonia, said his daughter, Leonor Bridges of Santa Ana.

Born in Hidalgo, Mexico, Turich toured his native country as a dancer with his family’s act called “Familia Turich.” When he was 20, his family came to the United States where he worked as a comedian in Los Angeles theaters. After he was married, Turich and his wife formed a comedy team that performed locally. Turich then went into silent films, appearing in “Mademoiselle Midnight” (1923) with the late Mae Murray, whom he taught the Mexican Hat Dance for the film. Turich had small parts in several films including “Branded” (1950), “Giant” (1956) and “The Magnificent Seven” (1960). He also worked in television, retiring in 1983 after appearing in the detective drama, “Matt Houston.”

In addition to his daughter, Turich is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rosa F. Turich; daughter Marina Gardea of Salem, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. His son, Phil Turich, died in 1990.

A vigil service will be held at 8 tonight at Woods Glendale Mortuary, 511 S. Central Ave., which is handling the arrangements. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 220 E. Elk Ave. in Glendale. Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills.
