FAA Awards Pact to MCI: The Federal Aviation Administration said it awarded an estimated $558-million contract to MCI Telecommunications Corp. to improve communications among air traffic control facilities and between controllers and pilots. The agency said the new leased inter-facility national airspace communications system will replace a telephone network that links thousands of FAA facilities nationwide. With the exercise of all options, the leased inter-facility system will provide the FAA with communications for 10 years, the agency said. Installation, to begin this summer, will be completed within three years.
