Thirty-Year Mortgages Hit Five-Month High: Thirty-year, fixed-rate mortgages averaged 8.88% this week, their highest in five months, according to a national survey released by the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. Rates have been rising since they dropped to 8.23% during the week ending Jan. 10. This week’s average was the highest since rates reached 8.91% during the week ending last Oct. 25. Rates averaged 8.85% last week.
