* * * 1/2 Clivilles & Cole, “Greatest Remixes Volume 1,” Columbia. One of the best dance collections of the last few years and a must for any serious club dancer, “Greatest” includes mostly remixes of old songs by the producing-composing team of Robert Clivilles and David Cole, the masterminds of C+C Music Factory. Their unmistakable formula--a thicket of samples churning over a crunching beat--is rooted in ‘70s disco, powering tracks like Chaka Khan “Clouds”, Lisa Lisa’s “Let the Beat Hit ‘Em,” Billy’s “True Love” and even a nifty techno-house revamping of U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love).”

Albums are rated on a scale one star (poor) to four (excellent).
