A Ventura burglary suspect was arrested early Saturday after being cornered and bitten by a police dog following a break-in at a used-car lot, police said.

Police said a resident who lives near Camelot Motor Center on Thompson Boulevard saw a man in the car lot’s office about 1:30 a.m.

When the neighbor confronted the intruder as he left through a broken window, the man acted as if he had a hidden weapon and fled, police said.

Police called to the scene unleashed a Rottweiler that cornered and bit Jason Bentley, 29, in the back yard of a vacant house nearby.

After being treated for the wound, Bentley was booked into Ventura County Jail on charges of burglary and robbery.

Claude Vanlandingham, the owner of the car lot, said seven sets of car keys were missing.

He said it appeared that the burglar cut several wires in an attempt to thwart the office’s security system and then broke a window to enter the office.

He estimated damage at $850.
