YORBA LINDA — The Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace will celebrate former First Lady Pat Nixon’s 80th birthday today with free admission, a spring flower display, birthday cake, bagpipes and Irish folk dancing.
Library spokesman Kevin Cartwright said the first 80 visitors will be given free autographed copies of the book “Pat Nixon: The Untold Story,” by Julie Nixon Eisenhower, her daughter. Cartwright said the event is being celebrated with a St. Patrick’s Day theme because Pat Nixon, formerly Thelma Ryan, was born on the eve of the holiday.
The spring flowers will be displayed in the new “Ambassador of Goodwill” area of the library that honors Pat Nixon’s work during her husband’s presidency, Cartwright said.
The library’s regular admission fee of $4.95 will be waived, he said, and the facility will be open an extra hour, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
