LITTLE BROTHER: Marilyn Bernes, who teaches at Martin Elementary School in Santa Ana, remembers her little brother always tagging along behind her when growing up in the Bronx in New York City. Next week, her brother will visit at her school to check up on her. He is Gen. Colin L. Powell, above, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who guided the Desert Storm operation. . . . “It’s the first time he has visited here,” says Diane Thomas of the Santa Ana Unified School District.
