Bellflower’s Need of Good Planning
The voting citizens of Bellflower ought to take a long and fast look at what they seek in the future, with council elections upcoming.
Bellflower has not gotten better over the last 20 years, in good or bad times. Other cities prosper and The Friendly City fades.
Diminishing revenues and chronic dependence on external grants have captured decision making and innovation. Guidance has not come from the Planning Commission. Alondra and Bellflower boulevards are evidence that urban planning is not a high priority. Beware, citizens, of candidates who ride on the Trojan horse of redevelopment.
The city requires a new code or standard that sets us apart. Pliant zoning will not achieve that or gain a stable future. The residents have already “voted” in the marketplace. Now maybe they can realize some of their clout in the voting booth.
