NEW OPTION: Now that Medi-Cal will pay for the Norplant birth control device, the local Planned Parenthood office says business is booming. The devices have been available since June but only to women who could afford the $500 price. Now they cost as little as $62, and some women get them free. In the past month, 68 women have signed up for the arm-implant device, which prevents pregnancy for five years. . . . “If you’re not ready to have your tubes tied and not ready to have a child, it’s an option,” says the agency’s Margie Fites-Seigle.
