DANCE
Fasting No More: Dancer Katherine Dunham, 82, has ended a 47-day fast she undertook to help ousted Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide return to power. Aristide and the Rev. Jesse Jackson visited her Monday to urge her to break her fast. As Dunham sipped chicken soup Wednesday in East St. Louis, Ill., she told reporters she wanted to gain strength to be able to accompany Aristide back to Haiti soon. Dunham existed on water, cranberry juice and glucose during the fast. She had vowed not to eat until Aristide was returned to power and the United States ended its policy of repatriating Haitian refugees. Aristide, Haiti’s first freely elected president, was ousted in a military coup in September.
