GLENDALE : Tax-Cut Advocate Sues to Get Nickname on Ballot

Share

Craig (Tax Freeze) Freis, a Glendale tax-reduction advocate, filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court this week for the right to have his nickname printed on the June primary ballot.

“My name is alliterative, it will help people identify what I stand for,” Freis said of his suit, filed against Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder Charles Weissburd after he was informed that the nickname was not acceptable for use on the ballot.

Freis has filed to run against county Supervisor Mike Antonovich. The challenger claims that the exclusion of his nickname, which he used in a 1986 bid for assessor, is “a violation of 1st Amendment rights.”

A spokeswoman for the recorder said that the decision was made on advice from the county counsel, who could not be reached for comment.
